Four times the pegs of the standard board and roughly four times the time, which is worth knowing before you start rather than halfway through. At 28.5 cm square it stops being a craft object and becomes something you would frame and hang, which is the reason to take it on.

It is also the size that eats beads. Filling every peg takes over three thousand of them, so a single background colour can run through most of a tub on its own — count out the colour list before you start, not when you are two thirds of the way across.

Two practical routes onto this board. Either enlarge one subject to fill it, which needs a photo with enough real detail to justify the extra beads; or tile four 29×29 designs into a two-by-two block, which gives you a set — four seasons, four animals — and lets you stop after any one of them.
